The first emperor of Nicaea which was an offshoot of the crumbling Byzantine empire after the sacking of Constantinople during The Fourth Crusade. Theodore I was known as a powerful leader, so much so, if he had lived a longer life he may have been capable of taking back Constantinople and reestablishing dominance in the region.
Obverse: Christ seated, raising right hand and holding book of Gospels in left hand
Reverse: Theordore I, and St Theodore, both holding sword and staff with eight-pointed star staff between them
