Following the demise of Nero, Galba, the Governor of Hispania (Spain), was deemed worthy by the Roman Senate and his troops to ascend to the throne as Emperor. However, his reign was cut short by his once-loyal friend Otho, who assassinated him. It was a tumultuous and perilous time in Roman history, where claiming the throne was a treacherous undertaking. Despite the populace basking in an era of peace and prosperity, the upper classes were fiercely vying for supremacy in the Empire.
Obverse: Galba bare-headed
Reverse: SPQR/ OB/ C S. in three lines in oak wreath
