Struck in the Roman territory conquered by the great Julius Caesar known as Roman Gaul, comprising of present-day France, Belgium, Luxembourg, parts of Northern Italy, and western Germany.
During the period of 27 BC to 180 AD, the Roman Empire experienced unparalleled growth and prosperity, referred to as "pax romana" or Roman Peace. The clasped hands on Roman coins were a powerful symbol of peace and harmony, the shaking of hands between two parties meant neither was holding any weapons, a universal symbol of peace and respect that still resonates today.
Following the demise of Nero, Galba, the Governor of Hispania (Spain), was deemed worthy by the Roman Senate and his troops to ascend to the throne as Emperor. However, his reign was cut short by his once-loyal friend Otho, who later assassinated him. It was a tumultuous and perilous time in Roman history, where claiming the throne was a treacherous undertaking. Despite the populace basking in an era of peace and prosperity, the upper classes were fiercely vying for supremacy in the Empire.
