Product Description:

This Coin commemorates Australia's first Victoria Cross recipient; Captain Neville Howse who was awarded this prestigious award for his actions in during the Boer War in 1900.

The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest military decoration awarded for valor "in the face of the enemy" to members of the armed forces of various Commonwealth countries and previous British Empire territories. It was first instituted by Queen Victoria in 1856 during the Crimean War and has since become one of the most prestigious and recognized awards for bravery in the military.

The design of the Victoria Cross consists of a bronze cross pattée, with a lion and crown in the center, and the inscription "For Valour" on the arms of the cross. The decoration is suspended by a bar adorned with laurel leaves, and it is worn around the neck. The original recipients of the Victoria Cross were presented with a cash award in addition to the medal, but today, the award is solely in the form of the medal.

The Victoria Cross is awarded for acts of extreme bravery and valor in the face of the enemy. It is not limited to any specific branch of the military and can be awarded to members of the army, navy, or air force. The process for awarding the VC involves a recommendation from a senior military officer, followed by a thorough review to ensure that the act meets the criteria for exceptional bravery.

The award is a symbol of courage and selflessness in the most challenging and life-threatening situations. Recipients of the Victoria Cross are widely respected for their extraordinary acts of valor, and their stories often become part of military history and folklore. The award is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by individuals in the service of their country.
