This coin is the second coin in the the Royal Mint's popular Queen's Beasts series, which features designs inspired by the heraldic beasts that stood guard at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The coins in the Royal Mints Tudor beasts collection depicting the beasts that line the Moat Bridge. They are the symbols King Henry VIII's union with his third wife Jane Seymour.
A Yale is a mythical creature in European mythology said to have a goat-like body with the tusks of a boar, and lions tail, with horns that can swivel to attack from all angles. The Yale is said to represent both bravery and peace and was used as the arms for the house of Beaufort.
The obverse of the coin features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was also designed by Jody Clark. This portrait shows the Queen facing right wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown and the Victorian coronation necklace.
