He was also a strong supporter of social reform, promoting public health programs and affordable housing for the poor. Additionally, he was a patron of the arts and helped to support artists and writers during his reign, while also modernizing the British monarchy to make it more accessible to the public. Finally, he supported scientific research, helping to establish the Royal Society of London and fund scientific expeditions, including the discovery of the Burgess Shale fossils in Canada.
