Ferdinando II of Italy, also known as Ferdinand II of Bourbon, was a king of the Two Sicilies (a kingdom comprising southern Italy and Sicily) from 1830 until his death in 1859. He was born on January 12, 1810, in Palermo, Sicily, and was the son of Francis I of the Two Sicilies and his second wife, Maria Isabella of Spain.
Ferdinando II became king at the age of 20, following the death of his father. During his reign, he faced a number of challenges, including economic difficulties and political unrest. He attempted to modernize the country and promote industrialization, but his efforts were hindered by the conservative nobility and the Catholic Church.
Ferdinando II is also known for his harsh crackdown on political dissent, particularly during the 1848 revolutions. He is remembered for ordering the execution of a large number of political prisoners, earning him the nickname "Re Bomba" (King Bomb) among his critics.
