Known for being and ardent supporter of the military and expansionist he would often carry himself as if he were an officer in the Military. He held and iron grip over his peers and would squash any dissent against him. He would often micromanage his military advisors which would often lead to disastrous results.
Nicholas I would begin a period of major destabilization of Russia by instigating the Crimean war in 1853, while at the same time establish major industrial reforms and progress to his nation. His biographer would say about him "Nicholas I came to represent autocracy personified: infinitely majestic, determined and powerful, hard as stone, and relentless as fate."
Czar Nicholas I would greatly expand his territory and it would represent very closely to the Russia we see today upon his death Russian territory would expand to over 20 million square miles but was in desperate need for social reforms.
