This Marriage would be a complete failure and would lead to Peter III abdicating and eventually being murdered by his detractors, Catherine would see this as an opportunity and would seize power for herself proclaiming herself Empress.
She would undoubtedly lead Russia into one of its greatest ages and would establish Russia as a European power by seeking participation in the politics of the continent. She would greatly expand her borders through Crimea and much of Poland and would be the first European to colonise Alaska establishing a Russian-American colony there
