Notably, a peaceful reign occurred under Antoninus and he acquired the title "Pius" after he had his predecessor and adoptive father Hadrian deified as a god. Further Hadrian would have many senators sentenced to death closer to the end of his life, and as these men had no quarrel with Antoninus, he would pardon their sentences. He would expand access to free drinking water throughout the Empire which greatly improved the lives of many.
Upon his death, he would leave the Roman coffers overflowing with wealth after his many successful military campaigns and good fiscal policies. Later in history Antoninus would be known as the fourth of the five good Emperors
