The festival of the dreaming coin
The image on the reverse of this coin is a collaborative work by Australian Aboriginal athlete and artist, Nova Peris-Kneebone and master coin designer, Stuart Devlin, who was appointed goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1982. The coin depicts two people in the centre of the design. Around them is a circle representing their dreams, the smaller dots their families and friends, and the waves represent the obstacles they must overcome.
A Sea Change coin
The coin's reverse design depicts aspects of the Sydney Olympic cultural festival, ‘A Sea Change’, focusing on Australia’s evolution as a multicultural society. The start and growth of Australian society is symbolised by a wise Aboriginal elder surrounded by Australians from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The border consists of ships and aircraft that have brought immigrants who have contributed to Australian culture.
Each of the 8 silver coins are struck to a proof finish from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver. All coins are issued as Australian legal tender with a face value of Five Dollars. Limited mintage with just 100,000 of each coin produced.
