The Australian Threepence was a coin used in the Commonwealth of Australia prior to the decimalisation of Australian coinage in 1966. The threepence were part of Australian silver coinage and minted from 1910 to 1963.
The threepence was originally minted in London for the first 5 years before being minted mostly in Australia. Throughout its issuance the threepence was minted with six different reverse designs. Like other pre-decimal Australian coinage the threepence was minted with a silver purity of 92.5% silver with a troy ounce weight of 0.042 until 1945 where afterwards they were minted with 50% silver purity and troy ounce weight of 0.023.
