Sydney Mint Type I Gold Sovereigns
These Sovereigns feature a young bust of Queen Victoria with a braid in her hair. They were only produced from 1855 to 1856 and feature the Type 1 design on the reverse design stating, “Sydney Mint” and “One Sovereign”.
Due to these coins being produced for only two years, they are an extremely rare coin. They were produced in the first year Sovereigns could be produced in Australia in 1855, and the first time “AUSTRALIA” was printed on a Sovereign. This was the first and last time that the Royal Mint allowed one of its colonies to produce a different design on the reverse of a Sovereign coin. Own a piece of Australian history with one of these extremely rare and collectable coins.
